Fishing Points GPS - Android GPS for Fishermen.

Before the day I was fortunate and blessed enough to have electronics on the boat with built in GPS

I was scouring the Android play store looking for GPS/Maritime navigation software to use while I am on the boat to mark spots and have an idea how to get back to them.

I must have installed what felt like a hundred different apps before finding this gem...

It's called Fishing Points GPS Navigation by Grega Čučnik.

Quite frankly , there is nothing else like it on the app market for us fishermen. There are many apps claiming the same features but they severely lack in ease of use and actual fisherman-friendly features.

Fishing points allows you to Mark spots on the fly while viewing a Google Maps overlay. Its genius! You can also input spots via Long x Lat manually and save them for later live use.

You can even import KM Z or GPX files, lay down trawling lines and even measure distances live on map!

It really was life saver to have this easy to use application on my phone.

There is a free and a paid version, I would highly recommend the paid version as you can save a whole lot more spots and it has many added features. So for a few bucks you get some great software with whole basket of features. Grega can be really proud of his achievement with this software.

This is the feature list from the app store:

-Save fishing locations, hotspots, waypoints - Save trolling paths and trotlines - Find saved locations with GPS navigation system - Current weather conditions - Weather forecast (7-day and hourly weather) - Tide charts (7-day tide prediction) - Sunrise and sunset times - Moon phase information - Online mode with Google Maps - Offline mode - Import kmz or gpx files from other devices - Share your locations with friends - Compass - Measure distances

Now another great thing is if you have ideas to better the software or add to it's you value you can mail the developer directly and correspond that way. He is a friendly guy and loves getting feedback from the community.

There are a whole range of icons to choose for your marks or waypoints, one to suit every need.

You can set the software to Metric or Imperial to cater for MPH/FT and KPH/M which is great for South African users.

You can also use it as a digital compass

I use it frequently with my smaller boat as I have no GPS on it and it works like charm to get me to my favourite spots. Adding new spot is very easy and user friendly.

Even if you want to enter spots manually from coords that you have on your Fish finder you can manually enter them or import KMZ or GPX files.

My verdict is that it's a awesome tool for serious and weekend fishermen alike. I really fell in love with this application and it's well worth the meager asking price.

Go check out the free version now and see for your self!
